Background

Indianapolis CMM Calibration and Repair coordinates performance verification, repair and programming support for coordinate measuring machines used by powertrain and high-temperature alloy suppliers across central Indiana. Calibration work is completed by laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, with certificates issued under the performing laboratory's own accreditation scope. Jobs are scoped and scheduled against the standard a given machine requires, whether that is ISO 10360-2, ASME B89.4.1 or a frame-specific standard like ISO 10360-12.

Operating History

The region served sits inside Indiana's engine and powertrain manufacturing base, anchored by Cummins' global headquarters, three Stellantis plants in Kokomo, Haynes International's nickel and cobalt alloy operations, and GE Aviation's turbine component work in Terre Haute. Their Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers run the bore, form and cylinder-head inspections those programs require, and most of them are audited against IATF 16949 or AS9100 clauses that name calibration traceability directly.

Service runs two routes: on-site visits scheduled around a shop's shutdown window, and ship-in service for machines and gages better handled off the floor. Both routes start with the same scope check against a laboratory's published accreditation scope, and both end with a certificate that states the method, the uncertainty and the decision rule applied.

The Standards Behind the Work

These are the operating commitments the work is measured against.

  • 01

    As-found first

Results are recorded before adjustment, preserving the data an impact assessment depends on.

  • 02

    Scope checked before price

Instrument scope is checked against a laboratory's accreditation before a price is given.

  • 03

    Standard matched to frame

Bridge, arm, tracker and multisensor machines are each tested to their own governing standard.

  • 04

    Separate accredited and non-accredited work

Quotes and certificates identify which items fall inside scope and which do not.
